i have been a maker of things throughout my life. it is my greatest joy and passion. i am inspired by all things vintage and the too-often overlooked spirit of fun.

5'2" .. blue .. blondish .. small of stature but large of heart .. outgoing .. eternal optimist .. determined and resourceful .. handy around the house .. computer-smart .. kid magnet .. fun at a party.

WHERE DO YOU LIVE?
born and raised in the boston area .. moved to san francisco in 1981 where i still happily reside.

WHAT'S YOUR HISTORY?
self-taught artist and pack-rat .. first reading group to english/lit major to typesetter to paste-up artist to freelance graphic designer .. to owner and chief bottle washer of shadowbox!

WHEN WAS SHADOWBOX STARTED?
full-time in 1989 after a 15 year career in graphic design.

WHY DID YOU BECOME YOUR OWN BOSS?
frustration with inefficiency and incompetence .. desire for more control .. a belief that life grows where you plant it ..

HOW CAN I BECOME MY OWN BOSS?
perseverance and luck .. in that order .. question rules .. learn to do research .. ask for help from people smarter than you ..

FAVORITE PASTIMES?
treasure hunting through dusty warehouses, flea markets, second-hand stores, anything remotely similar .. inventing .. designing .. making art .. problem solving .. learning .. being around animals and kids .. making people laugh .. speaking french ..

an inventor, a teacher or an animal trainer.
